As in all busy cities, it can be difficult to drive around Toulon at certain times of the day. Fortunately, alternatives have been put in place: the City and the Metropolis are actively deploying facilities to create alternatives to travelling by car, and to experience Toulon differently.

What are metropolitan carpooling areas ?

To reduce the impact of cars in urban areas, the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolitan Area has created two carpooling areas, to the east and west of Toulon (in line with the two main road flow routes):
-To the east: the carpooling area with 114 spaces is located in the Sainte-Musse district, near the hospital and the A50 motorway.
-To the west: the 110-space carpooling area is located in the Escaillon district, near the A57.

Carpooling car parks are signposted from the corresponding motorway exits, and “Carpooling” totems mark the car park entrances.

The Metropolitan Area is considering the creation of other carpooling areas, to be located near high-traffic areas and Mistral Network (public transport) transfer points.

The Mont Faron cable car : an unusual alternative to the car

Although the cable car is a must-see when you come to Toulon, it has an additional advantage !
Apart from the old-fashioned charm of its famous red cabin, and the pleasure (sometimes apprehension!) of enjoying an incredible view of the mountains of Toulon, the harbour and the islands, the cable car is also an excellent and silent alternative to the car. It allows you to fully enjoy the view, without having to look at the road, which is rather winding…

The cable car operates from mid-February to mid-November, offers night-time entertainment on summer evenings and allows you to take your bike to the mountain bike trails at the top.
